Dead Eyes of London
Should be called a mini-mini review!
This film is offered along with ‘The Ghost’ on a double bill dvd, despite the fact that it’s not really a horror film. (‘The Ghost’ isn’t much of a horror film either, but I digress.)
The movie is a detective film, in particular, a German remake of an old Bela Lugosi movie. How good is it? Well, it’s a German remake of an old Bela Lugosi movie. The opening scene is chock full of atmosphere; a foggy “London” street is the hunting ground for a hulking blind murderer. (Great make-up, by the way.) Too bad the rest of the film can’t live up to the first bit. Aside from the occasional appearance of ‘Blind Jack’, the film is a ‘police procedural mystery’ consisting of endless questionings and red herrings. If you go in for gray talky films filled with office scenes and really lame attempts at humor, this is your baby.
The plot is as convoluted as a bad Italian giallo, and in the end the film is neither very creepy nor very interesting.
